Renewals trip people up more often than first-time applications, because several states hide the renewal path. We'll walk you through yours.
When to renew, and what happens if you're late.
Most patients book their renewal in the weeks before their certification lapses. Earlier is easier, but late is not the disaster people assume it is.
If your card has already expired, you almost certainly do not start over. In most states you renew from your existing record rather than filing as a new patient. The practical cost of lapsing is that you can't purchase until your certification is active again — not that your history disappears.

These are our fees. Where your state charges its own separate card or registration fee, you pay that to the state directly.

My card already expired. Do I have to start over?
In most cases, no. States generally let you renew against your existing record rather than treating you as a brand new patient, and your certification history doesn't vanish because you were late.
The rules do vary, and a long lapse is handled differently from a short one. Call us at 814-360-5353 and we'll tell you exactly where you stand before you pay for anything.
How early can I renew?
Most patients book in the weeks leading up to their expiry date. Renewing early doesn't cost you time on the back end in most states — the new period generally runs from the new certification rather than from the day you booked.
Because the specifics differ by state, our team will confirm the best timing for yours during booking.
Do I need my old certification or card number?
Have it nearby if you can. It isn't required to book, but it speeds up the portal step considerably — especially in West Virginia, where the renewal path in MyComplia is tied to your existing certificate.
If you can't find it, that's fine. We deal with this daily.
I renewed with a different service last time. Can I switch?
Yes. You're renewing your state certification, not a subscription with whoever you saw last year. Book a renewal and our doctor handles it from there.
Florida is the one place with a specific process for this — transferring from another Florida physician is $149, and it's an in-office visit in Fort Lauderdale.
What if my condition has changed?
Tell the doctor on the call — that's a large part of what the visit is for. A change in your condition, your other medications, or how you've been using cannabis is worth discussing, and it may change what the doctor recommends.

Will the doctor's call show up as spam?
It might. HIPAA-compliant calling systems often present as private, unknown, or spam-labeled numbers. Keep your phone nearby during your window and answer anything that comes through, even if it looks suspicious.
